Frequently asked questions
What is the Big Fun Craft?
Big Fun Craft is our virtual fundraising challenge that asks our supporters to knit, sew or crochet every day in February to raise money for North London Hospice. This craft challenge is about bringing together members of our community who love knitting, sewing and crochet or want to learn a new creative skill.
I’ve never done anything like this before, is this challenge suitable for me?
Yes – this challenge is open to everyone! From seasoned knitters aiming for an ambitious project to beginners just learning the ropes, everyone is welcome. Just don’t forget to share your updates in our Facebook group!
How long is the challenge?
You have the whole month of February – 28 days!
How do I sign up?
It’s easy to sign up – all you need to do is register here and set up your Facebook fundraiser or JustGiving page. If you’d rather not seek sponsorship for your crafting, you can join for free and simply make a one-off donation.
If you’re not on Facebook, you can email us and we’ll register you for the challenge.
How much does it cost?
It is completely FREE to take part in Big Fun Craft! We ask that you try to raise as much money as you can throughout your challenge, and we will have tips on how to do this on our Facebook group.
Where does my money go?
The money you raise will enable us to provide essential end-of-life care to people throughout Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. North London Hospice is a registered charity, and our care is free of charge to those who need us, but this doesn’t mean there isn’t a cost to us.
This year has been very challenging with rising demand and extra costs. To continue providing the care needed to many more people in 2025, we will need the public’s support more than ever. Our costs have risen to almost £16 million and even though we do receive a contribution from the NHS, we still need to raise over £10million this year.
Without this support we simply wouldn’t be able to provide our services each year.
Can I make cash donations?
Absolutely! Cash donations should be paid into your own account, then you can make the equivalent donation to your online fundraising page. Alternatively, you can send us a cheque or make a donation on our donation page. Please state in the comment section that your donation is from your Big Fun Craft.
Do I have to use Facebook?
We recommend using Facebook as it means all your challenge information is in one place.
However, if you don’t have Facebook, then we recommend using JustGiving for online fundraising. Alternatively, you can collect donations and pay them in person by visiting our fundraising team at our Head Office.
What items do I need to make and where do I send them when they are finished?
You are welcome to make whatever you like – the challenge is flexible! If you make any of the following items, you can donate them to the hospice at the end of February – hats, gloves and scarfs, cushion covers, blankets and cuddly toys. Alternatively, you can send your items to any of our 17 shops, to raise additional funds for our work. We will be sharing suggested patterns you can follow in advance of February on the Facebook group. Happy Crafting!
