Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Salary: £84,258 – £112,845 pa inc. (pro-rata if LTFT)

Hours: Permanent, Full time – 10 sessions per week

Location: North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, North London

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (NMUH) have partnered together with North London Hospice (NLH) to appoint a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is a permanent replacement post, currently with 3PA’s per week at NMUH and 7PA’s per week at NLH, and applications are welcome from those seeking full or less than full time working.

You are invited to join a forward-looking team at “North Mid” consisting of 5 CNSs, 1 Fast Track discharge coordinator, 1 GPVTS, 1 Trust grade doctor and 3 consultants. We have well-established links with our large oncology department, critical care, emergency department, care of elderly, respiratory, cardiology and renal services, and have been centrally involved in patient care across the Trust during the recent and ongoing COVID crisis.

The successful candidate will take the lead on expanding our palliative care outpatient clinic work, including the option of joint outpatient work with other departments. The job plan will be negotiated dependent on the skills and interest of the candidate and the needs of the service.

The team is active in teaching and training at all levels and the successful candidate would be expected to share this enthusiasm. The successful candidate will also directly contribute to integration of care between hospital and hospice: At North London Hospice (NLH) the postholder will share responsibility for the in-patient ward with a consultant colleague and will be part of the network of clinical services offered by the locally well-established hospice. The inpatient team consists of a GPVTS and a ST3+ in Palliative Medicine, while the consultant team includes 5 further colleagues working across hospice, community teams and Royal Free Hospital. NLH provides a regional out of hours on call service shared with those other local specialist providers in which the successful applicant will take part.

North-Central London, with our main boroughs of Enfield and Haringey, is an area with a diverse population and high levels of social deprivation. We are committed to providing equitable access for all patients, and the post provides an exciting opportunity to develop culturally sensitive, responsive and proactive services for a growing and diverse community.
Above all, we are looking for candidates who treat others with respect and compassion, demonstrate a dedication to equality and diversity and strive to improve lives of the people in our local communities.

We offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the individual and the service. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need. Prospective candidates should be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT or be listed on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine.
