North London Hospice is delighted to announce that it has been successful in an application for a grant from the Wolfson Foundation to contribute to the re-development of its Inpatient Unit.

The award of £150,000 is a major milestone in one of the most ambitious projects that the charity has undertaken since the hospice was built in the early 1990s.

    Building for Tomorrow

After extensive consultation and research, including exploring several different options, hospice leaders concluded that a complete redevelopment of the Inpatient Unit is the best solution for us to meet future needs of patients.

North London Hospice has now received planning permission to rebuild our Inpatient Unit and have gone out to tender to appoint a contractor. It is anticipated that one will be selected by the end of March 2026.

Declan Carroll, Chief Executive of North London Hospice said: “We are incredibly proud of the care we provide to thousands of patients every year. However, in the three decades since our hospice building opened, much has changed. The numbers of people requiring our help has increased and as the population grows and ages, their needs have become broader, multi-faceted and more complicated. Whilst our models of care have adapted and advanced, our facilities and structures have not.

“We want everyone to come into our hospice and feel as calm and held as possible and we know the environment contributes greatly to achieving this. Having not been significantly altered for 30 years, our Inpatient Unit is now outdated and unable to offer the peace and tranquillity that sets our hospice care apart from others.

“We are extremely grateful to the Wolfson Foundation. This award is a major step forward in our project towards creating a state-of-the-art, sustainable facility for patients and their families that will continue to meet their complex care needs now and well into the future. Thanks to the Foundation, we are a step closer to achieving our vision which is to provide the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone.”
