October is Free Wills Month: have you written yours?

October is Free Wills Month, and a good reminder that you can write a simple will completely free of charge through our partnership with Octopus Legacy.

Making a will is one of those things many of us put off, but it’s an important way to make sure your wishes are followed and your loved ones are looked after. You can write yours online, over the phone, or face-to-face with a solicitor or will writer.

What you need to know:

• It’s simple and secure. Octopus Legacy’s online system was designed by solicitors and is checked by their legal team.
• A simple will is completely free, whether you do it online or with a solicitor.
  Your will must be witnessed to be valid. Once you’ve created it, you’ll need to print it, sign it, and have it witnessed by two independent people who are not family members or beneficiaries. 
• Updates are easy. Your first year of updates is free. After that it’s just £10 per year (optional, and you can cancel at any time).
• Support is available. If your situation is more complex, you can speak directly to the Octopus Legacy legal team for advice.

• There’s no obligation to leave a gift. Many people choose to leave a gift in their will to causes they care about, but there is absolutely no requirement to leave a gift to the hospice in order to use this service.
