Remembering Dermot Murnaghan

North London Hospice has received a donation of £2,000 from Sky News colleagues of Dermot Murnaghan, who very sadly died earlier this month.

Dermot was a well-known broadcaster, whose career spanned five decades, across different channels and broke major news stories including the death of Diana Princess of Wales in 1997 as well as the death of Queen Elizabeth II more recently.

The donation from Dermot’s team comes after his family encouraged the public to support charities who cared for him. Their statement read: “The family wish to thank the medical teams who cared for Dermot with such sensitivity and extraordinary compassion throughout his illness […] The family request that anyone wishing to remember him considers supporting Prostate Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer Research and North London Hospice so that others may benefit from the research and care he received.”

Declan Carroll, Chief Executive of North London Hospice said: “On behalf of all of us at North London Hospice, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to Dermot’s family and friends. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Dermot and his family for raising awareness of both his illness as well as hospice care.

“Our charity relies on the support of the local community. Put simply, we could not keep our doors open without people stepping in to make up the shortfall in funding. We would like to thank everyone who has donated in Dermot’s memory, enabling us to care for more people in future. Our thoughts are with Dermot’s family; Maria, Kitty, Molly, Alice and Jack at this difficult time.”
