Statement from Declan Carroll, Chief Executive of North London Hospice

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific attack on a synagogue in Manchester yesterday, especially on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism.

We know that many people in our community may be feeling upset and vulnerable right now. Yesterday we posted a statement on our internal communications platforms, however, I wanted to further reiterate our support to you all.

Our values define who we are, not just as an organisation but our people too. We are inclusive as an organisation and our diversity is our strength, and our people are our biggest asset.

We are living through turbulent times, when it feels like division and hate are on the rise. The horrendous events which unfolded yesterday are a result of this. However, we know only too well the power of love, which is always stronger. We see it every day.

Our hospice was built by and for a community of all faiths and backgrounds, coming together to support each other. It is this spirit which defines us and will continue to do so in the face of hatred and violence.

I am so proud of our organisation, and how we support one another daily. Now is the time for us all to reflect, and to think about what more we can all do to ensure that we are living our values and challenging antisemitism, and all forms of hate, whenever we can.

Our thoughts are with our Jewish community at this difficult time. Please look after yourselves and each other".

    Let's keep in touch.
