North London Hospice achieves Disability Confident Employer Status
Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our organisational culture. We delighted to announce that North London Hospice has achieved Level 2: Disability Confident Employer status.
This recognises our commitment to actively attracting and recruiting disabled people, and to providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process. The status builds on the charity’s previous pledge to take positive action in recruitment from under-represented candidates.
As part of this work, we’ve taken several important steps, which include (among others):
Developing a disability inclusive recruitment guide, available here
Creating an EDI specific interview question bank, including questions focused on disability inclusion (to be shared with recruiting managers)
Using the government’s Access to Work scheme to ensure disabled employees have access to specialist equipment and adjustments
Partnering with Capital City College to offer future work experience opportunities for their disabled students at the hospice
These actions are part of our wider aim to create a disability friendly environment where all disabled staff, volunteers and patients feel welcomed, supported and valued.
We’re also proud that our most recent Count Me In survey data shows that 18% of our staff identify as disabled, reflecting our commitment to fostering an accessible workplace.
Suzie Long, Director of People and Culture at North London Hospice said: “Achieving Level 2: Disability Confident Employer status is an important milestone for North London Hospice and reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where disabled people feel welcomed, supported and able to thrive.
“We know that inclusion is not a one-off achievement, but something that requires continual learning, listening and action. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and grateful to colleagues across the organisation who are helping us build a workplace that truly reflects our values.” Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this achievement and continues to support an inclusive hospice community
