Dying Matters Week 2026
What is Dying Matters Awareness Week?
Death, dying and bereavement affect us all. Yet 27% of people find it hard to talk about death with family or friends, and 30% bottle their feelings up.* If we don’t talk about death and dying and bereavement, it can be harder to cope when we experience it.
The mission of Dying Matters is to break down the stigma and taboo of talking about death and dying. But sometimes, it’s hard to know where to start.
This Dying Matters Awareness Week is focusing on the importance of conversations about death and dying – with family, friends, employers, anyone in your life – helping people to get the conversation started.
To find out more and to get useful tips and advice on how to have these conversations, you can visit Hospice UK's website here.
North London Hospice Invites You
From 4-10 May, you are invited to join us at any or all of a number of events being arranged in and around the hospice, to offer support, comfort, company, and an opportunity to remember those we have loved.
On Friday 8 May, we will also be hosting events in our new Living Well Centre in The Mall Shopping Centre, Wood Green, for a special day of remembrance.
Share a memory
Throughout the week, we will have a Share a Memory Box available for you to share a memory of your time with, or connection to, North London Hospice. You are welcome to visit in person and add your memory to the box, which will be located in our Room of Quiet at North London Hospice, Finchley.
Continuing Bonds - Creating a Collection of Memories
On Friday 8 May, 10am–12pm, we will be hosting a Continuing Bonds event at our Living Well Centre at The Mall Shopping Centre in Wood Green.
Those attending will be invited to decorate postcards using a range of arts and crafts materials. These postcards can then be shared with friends and family, inviting them to write a memory or reflection about a loved one. Once completed, the postcards will be returned to the person who initiated them, creating a deeply personal collection of shared memories.
If you would like to join in with this activity morning, please RSVP with the email subject line 'Continuing Bonds' to nlhbereavement@northlondonhospice.co.uk
Tea, Cake & Remembrance
We will be holding a relaxed and welcoming Tea and Cake Remembrance Afternoon on:
Friday 8 May, 1:30–3:30pm
Living Well Centre, The Mall Shopping Centre at Wood Green
This will be a gentle opportunity to come together, reflect, and connect in a warm and supportive space. Please feel free to drop in. We would love to see you.
A memory box will also be available for anyone who wishes to share with us a memory they have of the hospice.
Grief Cafe
Our next Grief Café will be held on Friday 1 May at Finchley Church End Library, N22 6YQ from 10am-12pm. Everyone is welcome.
