Friends take to their bikes for North London Hospice

Friends Piers, Will and Ras have got together to take part once again in the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 on Sunday 30 July, to raise money for North London Hospice, a place they hold close to their hearts.

Here they tell us why they decided to take part in this cycling challenge once again:

What made you decide to take part in Prudential Ride 100?

We rode last year for North London Hospice and it was an amazing experience! The Hospice is close to our hearts so we are honoured to be back in 2017 riding for North London Hospice again.

Have you taken part in any other cycling events?

Last September we also rode the 120 mile L’etape – the extra 20 miles were grueling.

What has your training regime been like?

We took a few months off after the 120-mile event, but started again in early January with a long and freezing cold ride to Cambridge. Since then we’ve been doing short rides and hill sessions during the week in between work, and we try to go on a longer ride once a week, although we’ve not quite kept to this regime unfortunately.

Why did you decide to support North London Hospice again?

Yes, our school friend Danny Wilder spent a lot of time at the Hospice back in 2013 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died at the premature age of 27, but he received unbelievable care and support from the Hospice team, and it was reassuring for his family and friends to see him in such good hands.

What kind of things have you done to fundraise for the Hospice?

Last year we raised just over £1,000 in the Ride 100. This year we’re hoping to smash that target. We’ve even got bright green NLH cycling jerseys on their way for this year’s event. This year we are aiming to smash both targets, by raising £2,000 and cycling 100 miles in under 5 hours.

What words of advice would you give someone thinking about taking part in Ride 100?

DO IT!!! It is an amazing day out. The atmosphere is buzzing, and all the roads in London are closed for you and thousands of other cyclists all riding for amazing causes.
