Temporary pause to volunteer recruitment

Volunteers are integral to our work at North London Hospice. Both individually and collectively, they make a huge difference to our work across a range of areas.

We have been assessing our volunteering needs as well as reviewing what we offer to volunteers. Whilst we look at developing our processes, we have decided to temporarily pause recruitment of new volunteers. This will allow us to make changes which will improve the volunteering experience at North London Hospice.

Our vision is the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. We welcome the skills, generosity, compassion, and dedication our volunteers provide to help us achieve this. If you’d like to be part of this mission in the future please check back soon when we re-start recruitment. We’d love you to join the team but we also want to ensure that we are providing you with the best experience possible.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we make these improvements.

Volunteering with us

Thank you for your interest in North London Hospice. In addition to our staff, our volunteers are an essential part of the hospice team – we couldn’t do all we do without you!

North London Hospice is a great place to work because you are making a real difference to the lives of people affected by a potentially life limiting illness.

Our vision is the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. If you’d like to be part of this mission, we’d love you to join the team!

We have a range of roles covering multiple areas from clinical and specialist through to events, fundraising and communications. There’s something for everyone!

North London Hospice is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity, and, we acknowledge that we currently have an underrepresentation from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people. North London Hospice job opportunities are open to all and we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Our Guide to Living Our Values can be read here and our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion statement for volunteers can be found here.

So that we can comply with our legal obligations, we provide our volunteers and staff with free mandatory training.

Volunteering Opportunities

Why volunteer?

Our volunteers are an essential part of the hospice team. Some volunteers have specific skills that they are able to use to help the hospice, many others offer commitment and enthusiasm, which is equally valued.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our volunteers reflect the diversity of the three boroughs we serve. Our youngest volunteers are 14 years old and work in our charity shops. Our oldest volunteers are in their 90s.

Volunteer stories

Our volunteers are the backbone of our charity. Find out more about the experiences of our volunteers and the range of opportunities that are available across our charity.

Where Can I Volunteer

At the hospice, we offer volunteering opportunities both where you are in direct contact with those using the service and behind-the-scenes.

Depending on the opportunity or activity, you may be based either in our hospice Head Office building in Finchley, North London Hospice Enfield – the home of our Outpatient and Wellbeing Services based in Winchmore Hill, or in the community supporting people in their own homes or helping them to get out and about.

You may be interested in a role within our shops or as part of our innovative Compassionate Neighbours programme. If you’re a bit short of time, you might sign up to support our awareness and fundraising work locally; both great micro-volunteering opportunities.

We do not recruit for everything all the time, so if you’d like to find out more about our current vacancies, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We warmly welcome your interest. Just email volunteer@northlondonhospice.co.uk or call 020 8156 4520 (voicemail) and leave a message with your name and number. One of our friendly team will get back to you as soon as possible to talk through what’s available.

We may be able to develop a role especially for you if you have specialist skills or experience which may benefit our work. So, there isn’t a comprehensive list of roles as this changes all the time to suit the needs of patients and the organisation.

Community and Fundraising

We run many fundraising events throughout the year which give people from all walks of life the opportunity to get involved, have fun and raise money for a great local cause.

In our shops

When you volunteer in a North London Hospice shop, you’ll be joining a friendly team at the heart of your local community.

Volunteer at the hospice

Getting involved as a volunteer is a great way to give something back to your community and can make a huge difference to an individual at such a difficult time in their lives.

Compassionate Neighbours

The Compassionate Neighbours project helps people living with life-limiting illness stay connected to their community to prevent loneliness and isolation.
