Leave a Gift in Your Will
Your gift can help hospice care live on
Writing your will is one of the most important things you will ever do. It is the only way to be sure that your wishes are carried out and that your friends, family and loved ones are looked after in the way you want for them. But there is a way to create a better future for those you love and for your community, which is why many people now choose to leave a gift to charity in their will, also known as a ‘legacy’.
If, like us, you believe that everyone deserves the best of life, at the end of life, you can make a big difference to those in our care by leaving even a small amount to North London Hospice. Hospice care can only exists thanks to our supporters.
Gifts left in wills enable us to continue to provide vital services to our local community now and into the future, and we are so grateful that you are considering this extraordinarily thoughtful and lasting way of giving. Your gift will help hospice care live on.
How would you like to be remembered?
Even with a small gift, you can make a BIG difference
North London Hospice provides compassionate, dignified and specialist care to over 3,500 patients with a life limiting condition every year.
The care of approximately 1 in every 5 of those patients is paid for by gifts in wills.
Every gift makes a positive difference.
Big or small, these gifts achieve a lot together, and that’s what makes them so special.
40 years of care and we will be here long into the future
Since 1984, we have been committed to being here for those in North London who need us at the end of life.
Every year that need has grown and we have been here providing expert care every step of the way.
In Barnet alone, the number of over 65s is predicted to double by 2040 which means that even more people will need our support.
Thanks to your help, we can be here for them when they need us.
The impact of your gift
“Before I came here, I was scared. I thought it was where you came to die, but it’s also about living better.
I was really struggling until the palliative team became involved and don’t think I’d have got through the last few months without them.”

There are three types of gifts in wills:
Friends and family first (residuary legacy)
Making provisions for those you care about must, of course, be your priority. However, after taking care of your loved ones in your Will, you can leave whatever is left in your estate (the ‘residue’) to North London Hospice, either alone or alongside other charitable causes. This is the most beneficial way to leave a gift to North London Hospice as it is a percentage of your estate rather than a fixed amount, meaning it won’t lose its value over time.
Cash gift (pecuniary legacy)
You could leave a fixed sum of money as a gift in your Will and we are always very grateful for these cash gifts. However, it is worth noting that pecuniary gifts can devalue over time due to inflation, so it is worth reviewing your Will regularly.
Gift in kind (specific legacy)
You can choose to leave specific items in your Will such as property, shares, jewellery, or furniture. Leaving the contents of your home as a gift in your Will is welcome as our shops can maximise their value for the hospice.
North London Hospice is unable to provide you with legal advice. It is recommended you take legal advice when updating or making your Will.
